No prior musical experience necessary

Don't be nervous, even if you've never played an instrument or read music before. We'll teach you everything you need to know from the absolute beginning.

Specialized for adult beginners

The entire focus of Drunken Fiddles is teaching adults. Our process has helped hundreds of beginners discover it's never too late to learn!

How it works...

Step 1: Say YES!

The hardest part is often just getting started. Take a chance on yourself and enroll, marking your first step toward becoming a musician.

I WANT TO PLAY!

Step 2: Get Yourself a Fiddle

Fun fact: A fiddle and a violin are the exact same instrument!

Don't have one yet? No problem! We recommend renting from a local violin shop (also called a luthier). Renting is an affordable way to get started without making a big investment.

If you need help finding an instrument, email us at [email protected] and we'll be happy to point you in the right direction!

Step 3: Start Playing!

Once you're enrolled and have your fiddle, you're ready to go!

You'll log-in to access your first lesson, along with other supporting materials. The course is designed to take 8 weeks, but you can go as slow or fast as you'd like through the lessons. (And you'll have lifetime access to the course once you've signed up, so you'll always have it available to reference!)

By the end of the course, you'll have the foundational tools needed to play the fiddle!

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Hi. I'm Laurel Morgan. For more than a decade, I've had the privilege of helping hundreds of adults discover that it's never too late to learn the violin. Whether you're picking up an instrument for the very first time or returning after years away, I believe anyone can learn with the right guidance and a supportive community.

Before starting Drunken Fiddles, I built a career as a professional violinist, performing with artists including the Eagles, Sarah McLachlan, Josh Groban, Evanescence, Disturbed, and Amy Grant, as well as orchestras and festivals around the world. But my greatest joy isn't performing—it's watching a beginner play their first tune with confidence.

Drunken Fiddles began in 2015 when I invited five adults into my living room for a fiddle class. That little experiment grew into a community of adult musicians learning, laughing, and making music together across the Midwest and online.

My passion for teaching adults goes back even further. When I was four years old, I watched my dad come home from a community fiddle class carrying a beat-up old violin case. Seeing the excitement he had for learning something new stayed with me, and years later, it inspired the community I've built today.

If you've ever thought, "I've always wanted to play the violin," you're in the right place. I'll be with you every step of the way, helping you build real skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.

I can't wait to welcome you to Drunken Fiddles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Check your local violin shop to see if they have a rental option available. This can be a great place to start for the fraction of the cost of purchasing an instrument.

If there isn't a shop in your area, we recommend our partners Wyatt Violin ([email protected]) or KC Strings ([email protected]) who both offer rentals and ship nationally across the US.

That's actually perfect! We specialize in teaching adult beginners who have NEVER played, so you'll fit right in!

No worries! We will teach you how to read a cheat sheet. Also, some students prefer to learn by ear.

Zero to Fiddling is designed for an absolute beginners who have no experience playing fiddle (or perhaps played violin long ago and are dusting off their instruments). If you like things simple and thorough, this course is for you!
