Seven days and seven nights of learning
and making music together.
Join Drunken Fiddles to experience musical tradition and European city life
here in North America!
Bonjour, mes amis! This year, Drunken Fiddles hosts our annual immersive fiddle retreat in the most European city in North America: Quebec City. Dive into the vibrant Québécois fiddle tradition—featuring podorythmie (foot percussion) and a rich blend of Scottish, Irish, and French styles—guided by superstar clinicians and our stellar Drunken Fiddles instructors. We’ll stay at the Monastère des Augustines, a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city, just steps away from cobblestone streets, culture, and just minutes from spectacular nature. With an added extra day for more music and connection, this retreat promises the kind of magic our trips are known for. Read on for details!

Le Monastère des Augustines
Le Monastère des Augustines is a place of living memory that offers an unforgettable wellness experience thanks to its approach combining heritage and holistic health. A true haven of peace in the heart of Old Québec City, it offers an unforgettable experience with a focus on comfort and simplicity.
It occupies the former wings of the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec monastery, the origin of the first hospital in North America north of Mexico, dating back to the 17th century. Carefully restored, the historic building coexists harmoniously with contemporary architectural additions.
Today, Le Monastère welcomes visitors of all cultures and beliefs. It is run by a non-faith-based non-profit that exists to carry on the Augustinian Sisters’ mission of care and authentically blends many facets of their legacy.

Crossover violinist Laurel Morgan Parks has been following her musical path since the young age of 4 when her dad brought home a banged up fiddle with a bow that lacked most of its hairs – it was love at first listen!
Laurel is the violinist for the Wires String Duo, Of Tree, and In the Pines. After studying classical music at the Conservatory of Music at University of Missouri- Kansas City she found her true passion in improvising and composing music on her violin. Her inspiration comes from exploring fiddle traditions and styles from around the world as well as writing music for indie, pop and folk bands.
As a professional musician Laurel has performed with acts such as the Trans Siberian Orchestra, the Eagles, Sarah McLachlan, Amy Grant, Evanescence, Josh Groban and Disturbed. She's played with the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra and the international Mantovani Pops Orchestra.
Parks is currently the founder/instructor of Drunken Fiddles – a fiddle workshop for adults who want to learn to play a stringed instrument from the absolute beginning while incorporating fiddle styles and non-classical techniques along the way.
Sascha Groschang, cellist, has performed extensively across the United States, Europe and Asia. She has appeared at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall numerous times, and gave her solo debut recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in 2009. She has been a soloist and lecturer at the Thailand International Composition Festival, performed for the King of Malaysia with the Kuala Lumpur International Festival Orchestra, and traveled all across China on two tours with the Mantovani Pops Orchestra. She has shared the stage with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, The Eagles, Vince Gill, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Michael Bublé, Peter Gabriel, Josh Groban, Sarah McLachlan, Idina Menzel, Amy Grant, Sarah Brightman and her recording credits include NBC, Atlantic, and Rhino Records.
Sascha is the cellist and co-composer of the alternative string duo, "The Wires", which explores a variety of non-traditional string techniques and styles through original compositions. The Wires have released three full length albums and their arrangements and original compositions are published with Mel Bay Publishing Co. They were also co-hosts/curators of "Sound Currents" on 91.9 ClassicalKC for 2 years - a weekly radio program that explored a broad range of new music.
In addition, Sascha is principal cellist of NewEar Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, dedicated to playing the works of living composers. In 2022, she joined the St. Petersburg String Quartet. Their accolades include a Grammy nomination, "Best Record" honors in both Stereo Review and Gramophone, a five-year residency at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and hundreds of concerts on many of North America, Europe and Asia's most prestigious series and festivals. Since joining, the group has performed in Estonia, Kazakhstan, France, Germany, Israel and across the United States. Sascha is also a member of the Fountain City String Quartet and the 417 String Quartet, in which she performs the popular classical and pop Candlelight Concerts in 10 different cities across the midwest. Gaining widespread recognition for his soulful vocals and virtuosic classical-harp playing, Calvin Arsenia is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Kansas City, Missouri. In addition to his solo work, Arsenia has collaborated with a variety of artists across different media, including film and television, and has performed at numerous festivals and venues around the world. He is known for his heartfelt and introspective lyrics that often touch on themes of love, loss, and personal growth. Arsenia's music has been described as a blend of folk, pop, and R&B, and he continues to use his gift of music to draw bridges between communities separated by race, class, gender, sex, and/or religious beliefs.
Since 2023, Arsenia has been the director of an intimate concert venue and community space in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, called Greenwood Social Hall - the location he filmed his award-winning music video featuring his cover of Britney Spears's Toxic.
Alongside his best friend and co-host New York based comedian Justin Randall, Arsenia explores the ups and downs of being a queer person raised in the Evangelical Church in the 2020-2021 podcast We Were Christian Kids.
In 2021, Arsenia released a book of poems and short stories called Every Good Boy Does Fine. Both a journey of individual healing and a call for action, these poems show that, with a little love and acceptance, anyone can flourish.
Brooke Browning is a local music teacher in Wichita, Kansas. She runs Browning String Studio in North Riverside.
Not only does she love teaching privately, but she also works as a clinician in area schools, helping kids level up their playing. She enjoys being a musician at large and performing with many groups including Wichita Grand Opera, the Salina, Hutch and Newton Symphonies, and local Celtic band Knocknasheega. She loves being a part of the local folk music scene and jamming with all the talented people who share her love of music!
When she isn’t making music, you can find Brooke doing DIY projects with her husband and keeping up with her two dogs.
Robin Haas (he/they) is thrilled to be the Director of Operations at Drunken Fiddles. Robin loves doing a little bit of everything and wearing lots of hats, making this an ideal role. Their professional life has included web development, doula/birth work, soup kitchen and homeless shelter hospitality, and tax preparation.
Robin's very first fiddle experience was as an Absolute Beginner at Drunken Fiddles back in the fall of 2016, fulfilling a lifelong dream, and he's been here ever since. Writing harmony lines and the occasional new tune is the next horizon!
Wait to book airline tickets until you get the green light email from Drunken Fiddles.
You will be booking your flights to Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB).
There will be a group shuttle to transport you to and from the airport. After you receive the green light email, make sure you book your flights within the given timeframes if you plan to take advantage of this group shuttle.
We cannot emphasize enough the importance of travel insurance. As we all know, especially as travelers, “life happens.” Whether it’s family, work, mother nature, or an unexpected illness, it is important to be prepared in case you need to unexpectedly change your travel plans or need medical expenses covered. Participants are responsible for their own travel insurance as Drunken Fiddles does not cover flight issues, illness or other potential hazards.
If you have any other questions, please get in touch at [email protected]!
This year the retreat is limited to just 24 spots that are open ONLY to musicians. We love our non-musician participants but we have very limited availability for this particular retreat.

The group will be sharing several very nice bathrooms, each with toilet, sink, and shower. The bathrooms are private when you are using them, but they will be shared, just like bathrooms in a private home.
Each bedroom also has its own sink and mirror right within the room.
If you plan to explore the city itself, expect plenty of walking on cobblestone roads and climbing stairs.
No. The retreat is open to participants aged 21+ only.
If you play an instrument that works will with the Québécois traditional style (guitar, keys, mandolin, uke, accordion, etc) you are more than welcome!
The beds are extra long twins.
No. The flight is on your own. (Perhaps you want to schedule a few extra days to explore the city while you're there?) Everything else is included!
